The summer of 2002 will go down as the dawning of a new era in
reaching the poor and underprivileged of the inner cities in
America. Compassion America was birthed as a systematic method
for reaching targeted cities with food, clothing, school supplies
and other necessary products to sustain families in need of assistance.
Operation Compassion has previously supplied the inner city within
the confines of churches, organizations and agencies wanting to
do a large, one-day event. By partnering with churches and organizations,
Operation Compassion was able to fulfill a role in supplying much-needed
products to the inner city. However, the main concern of this method
was the certainty of the ongoing need and how it was to be supplied.

In consultation with leaders across America, the leadership of
Operation Compassion developed a new strategic plan for impacting
the inner cities. This new plan, Compassion America, not only
provides for large events but also for an ongoing presence in
meeting specific needs of inner cities.
Compassion America is the cornerstone for inner city relief efforts
by empowering existing organizations and agencies to broaden their
vision. Target cities across America, with host organizations,
will incorporate their efforts under a banner of compassion. This
unique partnership will allow the host organization and Operation
Compassion to make a much larger impact than either one could on
their own.

Compassion Atlanta, GA - Bruce Deel, Director, Compassion Indianapolis,
IN – Ron Ragan, Director and Compassion Cincinnati, OH – Ron
Martin, Director are the first among many Compassion America
cities to begin the process of meeting the challenges of their
inner cities. Each organization is similar in that they are reaching
those that are in need of help and relief from their economic
struggles. Yet, they are separate and distinct in their manner
and method.

When asked about the possibilities of this new strategy, Dr.
John D. Nichols, President of Operation Compassion stated, “For
years, Operation Compassion has been searching for an ongoing
strategy in regard to the inner cities of America. Now, we have
one!” Dr. Nichols continued, “It is a marriage between
Operation Compassion and successful, existing ministries, meeting
their need to expand opportunities and our need to sustain relief
to those who are hurting.”
David Lorency, International Field Representative for Operation
Compassion, declared, “It’s a new day for inner city
relief and Operation Compassion! Every day people are on the ground
working to sustain relief efforts and alleviate suffering. Now
Operation Compassion is there with them!” Mr. Lorency continued, “The
day of hit and run opportunities for inner cities are over. Operation
Compassion has a network of sustained efforts through Compassion
America entities.”
As doors of opportunities open, Operation Compassion will empower
and organize other Compassion America cities. The ultimate goal
is to have host organizations in every inner city across America.
